- Purpose
- Exchange of data between the Department for Transport operating under the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) and the Government Digital Service (GDS) to give users of a UK Driving Licence an option to store their digital driving licence in the GOV.UK Wallet.
- Information sharing benefits
- The Digital Driving Licence (DDL) will initially reduce costs and inconvenience by lowering the number of lost or stolen physical licences. Over time, it will enable more integrated digital services, improved compliance communication, and innovation through secure data sharing.
Verified credentials provide secure, tamperproof evidence of identity and eligibility, which provides departments a greater level of trust and confidence when providing their services - and reducing the opportunity for fraud.
Credentials can be revoked when eligibility expires, or when identity fraud is discovered. Removing these documents from circulation can help achieve enforcement or counter fraud-objectives.
- Disclosed information
- This is a One Way data share. Credential data will be supplied by DVLA for the Service.
